2009 Arnulfo D. Trejo LOTY award goes to Susan Luevano!!!
On June 18th, OC REFORMA chapter member Susan Luevano, Anthropology, Ethnic, and Women’s Studies Academic Librarian at California State University Long Beach (CSULB), was selected as the 2009 Trejo Librarian of the Year, a very prestigious award given to librarians dedicated in promoting and advocating services to the Latino and Spanish-speaking communities as well as advocacy work on behalf of historically underrepresented diverse communities. Please access the National REFORMA press release to learn more about Susan’s selection by the LOTY selection committee:
Susan’s remarkable contributions to REFORMA, both at the national and local level, and her dedication in serving underrepresented diverse communities as an Academic Librarian at CSULB will be recognized at the next REFORMA National Conference this July in Chicago. On behalf of OC REFORMA, congratulations Susan on receiving the 2009 LOTY award!
Did you know that this is the second year in a row that an OC REFORMA chapter member has been awarded this important award! In 2008, fellow OC REFORMA chapter member Ron Rodriguez received the LOTY award. Click the following link below for more information:
Just in case you missed it, here is Ron’s LOTY Acceptance Speech at the REFORMA National Conference in 2008 in the beautiful city of El Paso, Texas.
Since the inception of the Trejo LOTY award in 1991, OC REFORMA has had thus far a total of four outstanding members selected for this impressive award, including Al Milo in 1995 and John Ayala in 2001. The OC REFORMA membership is proud of this historic milestone, a milestone worth spotlighting and celebrating in 2009.
Accordingly, this brings us to conclusion of our highlights for the June 24th meeting. If you were unable to attend our last OC REFORMA chapter meeting, please join us for our next regularly scheduled meeting on Friday, August 28th at the El Modena Branch Library at 9:30 am. Our host will be Irma Morales, Branch Manager of El Modena.
