Each year, the Orange County chapter of REFORMA seeks to support the recruitment and retention of library school students to the profession of librarianship through local REFORMA chapter scholarship funds. This year, OC REFORMA awarded a total of five scholarships, totaling approximately thirty-five hundred dollars.
We are excited to announce the following 2009 OC REFORMA scholarship recipients:
Ayala Family Scholarship, $1000.00

- Erica Dietz- San Jose State University SLIS program:

2009 Arnulfo D. Trejo LOTY award goes to Susan Luevano!!!
On June 18th, OC REFORMA chapter member Susan Luevano, Anthropology, Ethnic, and Women’s Studies Academic Librarian at California State University Long Beach (CSULB), was selected as the 2009 Trejo Librarian of the Year, a very prestigious award given to librarians dedicated in promoting and advocating services to the Latino and Spanish-speaking communities as well as advocacy work on behalf of historically underrepresented diverse communities. Susan’s remarkable contributions to REFORMA, both at the national and local level, and her dedication in serving underrepresented diverse communities as an Academic Librarian at CSULB will be recognized at the next REFORMA National Conference this July in Chicago. On behalf of OC REFORMA, congratulations Susan on receiving the 2009 LOTY award!

Just in case you missed it, here is Ron’s LOTY Acceptance Speech at the REFORMA National Conference in 2008 in the beautiful city of El Paso, Texas.
Since the inception of the Trejo LOTY award in 1991, OC REFORMA has had thus far a total of four outstanding members selected for this impressive award, including Al Milo in 1995 and John Ayala in 2001. The OC REFORMA membership is proud of this historic milestone, a milestone worth spotlighting and celebrating in 2009.
